A select group of freshmen have taken on a huge responsibility: bringing an old club back to our school; The American Sign Language(ASL) Club’s main goal is to teach teenagers a language in which every person in the United States can use, no matter who they are.

“I was disappointed when I heard that not enough people where interested enough to keep it going.” says Katherine Strube (9th).

As of three years ago, the organization’s former founders graduated, thus students’ passion for the language faded. When Katherine Strube, Morgan Champion, and Katelyn Champion heard of this dilemma, they took drastic measures, including in interview with Principal Herbert, who explained the reasons and actions that need to be taken to bring the ASL Club back to our school. She also directed the founders to a sponsor, Mrs. McGinnis, who has devoted countless hours into helping create posters, permission slips, dates, and events to promote the club.

The hard work paid off, as the club was brought back and the first official meeting was held on October 7th.

A new form of Raider Pride is beginning to form at NFHS as more students are taking initiative to learn and spread this innovative language.
