A tragedy occurred on Tuesday night in Marksville, Louisiana. Police opened fire on the Mardis family car after chasing them for reasons that are currently unknown, which resulted in the death of six year old Jeremy Mardis. He sustained five shots to the head and chest. His father was admitted to the hospital under ICU. There were four officers involved in with the chase but only two, Norris Greenhouse and Derrick Stafford, were charged second degree murder along with attempted second degree murder.

In the aftermath of the event, Colonel Edmonson, after having watched the body camera footage, said, “I can tell you as a father it was one of the most disturbing things I have ever witnessed.” After further examination of the Mardis’s vehicle, there was no weapon in the car, leaving no apparent reason for the excessive violence used by the two suspended officers. In relation to the other two officers that were on the scene, the superintendent declined to say whether they were going to be suspected of criminal actions as well.
