West’s girls team was simply taller than North’s. Two of their players (Jenna Staiti and Kalie Schlegel) were over six feet tall, making the game much more difficult for North’s girls.

The varsity girls basketball team faced a sound defeat against West at their basketball homecoming game on Friday, January 15. After starting off with a very early lead, North ultimately saw tough opposition as West fought back hard, scoring 32 points to North’s 17. In the second half, West maintained its strong lead, ending the game with a 58-44 victory. The star offensive player of the game was West Senior Jenna Staiti with 21 points, including two three-pointers.

On the other hand, the varsity boys won a hotly-contested battle against West with a final score of 42-27. North started off with an early lead and kept up the pressure throughout the first half. West made a comeback in the third quarter, overtaking North and winning 22-19 until North retook its lead by the end of the game. Senior Chad Bureau was North’s strongest offensive player with 12 points. At 5:51 in the fourth quarter, he became the second person in North Forsyth history to score over 1000 points. The first to do so was Caroline Bowns, who also scored her thousandth point against West.
