On Oct. 1, 2016, the unbelievable happened at our very own Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia where the Bulldogs played the Tennessee Volunteers. It was a close game, but ultimately ended in defeat for Georgia with a score of 31-34.

The game started off strong for Georgia and gave many fans hope of winning against their most despised rivals. A 14-yard run was made by Sony Michel within the first six minutes of the game, scoring a touchdown, followed by a 27-yard field goal by Rodrigo Blankenship.

It was only when Joshua Dobbs made a four-yard run, scoring Tennessee’s first touchdown, when Georgia began to fall.

However, the Bulldogs managed to hold Tennessee off, making a 47-yard run and scoring a touchdown in the last ten seconds of the game. Fans were sure that Georgia had won.

As fate would have it, the unimaginable happened, and history was made on October 1, 2016. On the ensuing possession, Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs managed to hail mary a 43-yard pass to Jauan Jennings and scored the final touchdown with 4 four seconds left in the game.

This is one of the largest highlights of Tennessee football and will be marveled and talked about for years to come. The game should have easily been Georgia’s, however, bad play choices were made, which cost them a rival win.
