Heather Transue was nominated for teacher of the year by her fellow staff members at North Forsyth High School. Her next step in competing will be to compete against teachers from all of Forsyth County.
Now that Transue has been awarded the title of teacher of the year for North Forsyth, she will partake in the Forsyth 2026 semi-finalists against other teachers from across all of Forsyth County.
Here at North, Transue teaches two different English courses: AP Language for juniors and Honors 10th Literature for the sophomores. Both of these courses include English literature, a lifelong passion of hers.
Transue was born in Georgia, and once she graduated from high school, she attended Kennesaw State University in Demorest, G.A. Afterwards, Transue attended Piedmont University for her master’s degree. To pursue her degree, she took night classes while simultaneously teaching.
Ever since Transue was in high school, she knew she wanted to be a teacher. Therefore, after graduating she decided she would major in English literature.
Prior to Transue coming to North Forsyth High School, she spent a year teaching middle school in Florida due to her husband’s career as a sailor in the Navy. However, soon enough she was back in her home state, Georgia, and began teaching at North Forsyth.
Transue always knew she wanted to be a teacher, stating, “I never had a backup plan.” At first, she wanted to teach college students, but later decided that high school would be a better fit for herself and her family. She is now very passionate about her career at North.
At North, she is recognized not solely by her fellow staff members but by her students as well. One of her students anonymously says she is “good-natured and is always offering and willing to help with anything you need.”
Transue is known for always providing a safe space for her students, and her classroom reflects that. In her classroom, her walls are painted with popular book titles, some of which are taught in her classes. Additionally, there is a designated area where students are welcome to bring in coffee, tea or hot chocolate for a special treat throughout the school day.
Here at North, her fellow staff members and students wish her luck with the ongoing teacher of the year competition. We hope she will make it to the finals and take on the title of Forsyth’s teacher of the year!
