The nonprofit, underground club, Baking for the Brave, was founded in 2022. It was first created by Arianna Hagan and Hannah Hagen, with the simple but impactful mission to bake goods and send them out to the hardworking community members. Sadly, both of these students graduated from North Forsyth High School during the 2023-2024 school year.
One of the current Co-Presidents, Gabriella Miranda, shares, “Our mission is not only to teach people how to bake, but teach people how to have compassion and give out to our community through sweet treats!” Miranda is so proud of the community this club has created for students.
To find community members to gift baked goods to, they email different members in need to set up deliveries. The officers are very considerate of others’ time and make sure not to stumble in unannounced or interfere with any important jobs.
The sponsor of Baking for the Brave is Shannon Floody, who is a part of the administrative team here at North Forsyth. She strives to keep the club a safe space for everyone and is working hard, as it is her first year sponsoring a club here.
Officers of Baking for the Brave pride themselves on communicating as leaders with each other. The officers this year are: Co-Presidents Miranda and Evangeline Murtagh, Vice President Yasser Mahi, Treasurer Juno Nuqui, Co-Secreteries Shresht Goni and Aditi Patel, Social Media Director Rashmitha Kandula, Community Engagement Penelope Whisenhunt, and Co-Head Chefs Riley Grant and Bri Tucker!
Miranda mentions how her favorite part about the club is not only the baking, but seeing new faces in meetings and introducing them to something they might carry on for the rest of their lives! She acknowledges that these thoughts may seem silly now, but the impact that simple sweet treats have on heroes and people in need goes a long way.
There’s no doubt about how amazing and kind this club is. For more information look around the school for flyers or check out their Instagram! The club meets in the special education kitchen in the 500 hall, making sure to leave the space just as they found it. Be sure to stop by their next meeting!
