1:52 A.M.
A blanket wrapped me up. It was cold. Lifeless. Filled with black. Dark, dark black. Red danced in my vision.
The creature. The alien. It took her.
Storming into the bedroom, I glared down at the creature. Pathetic. It dared to try and crawl toward the window. “I don’t think so.” I kicked it in its side, sending it falling. “You’re going to tell me where you hid her.”
Whatever it said to me, my sock muffled it. I yanked it out.
“SPEAK!” I grabbed hold of the knife and slid it out of its leg, none too gently. A scream tore through its throat, tears leaking from its eyes. The tears were a glistening blue. I wasn’t fazed. I stabbed it above its chest, near the collarbone. Another howl. “TELL ME!” I shouted, frenzied and scared. Mellie. Mellie. Where was she? What had it done with her?
“H-Henry—”
“SHUT UP!” I slashed downward and the thing writhed on the floor, dancing in a dark red spotlight. The severed limb was gray and covered in bumps. “What are you?” I marveled, staring at it in awe. “No matter. You’ll tell me soon.” I slashed downward again, and a deep cut entered its other side. It was going to take time. But I would get my answers. Mellie. A shudder ripped my spine apart, and metallic liquid flooded my mouth. My tongue. It hurt. I wouldn’t sob. I couldn’t. I needed to find her. It was going to tell me.
I’d make it.
2:15 A.M.
It wasn’t talking. Merely sobbing.
2:50 A.M.
There were pools in our house. Beautiful pools that glistened a glorious red. I didn’t hear much other than screaming. It was high. It was soft. It was weak.
“Tell me!” I shouted. I didn’t know why I was shouting. But then I remembered. It’s an alien. And it took my Mellie. “Where is Mellie?”
3:34 A.M.
It wasn’t speaking. It was limp. My chest heaved. The knife slid from my grasp, falling into a pool of red.
“Mellie…where are you?” I asked the ceiling. The clouds…something about clouds. My eyes leaked and my body shook. Where was she? Why wouldn’t the creature just tell me?
