After HBO’s hit show “Game of Thrones” ended in 2019, fans of the show wondered if they would get an adaptation of “Fire and Blood” which serves as a prequel 200 years before the events of the show. Fortunately, on Nov. 18, it was revealed that there was an adaptation of those books being developed and the first season was going to follow the first two volumes.

The show is named “House of the Dragon” and it follows the Targaryen family in their prime when they ruled over Westeros with their mighty dragons. The plot shows the struggles of each member of the family, and how they handle their role in the kingdom.

I was a huge fan of “Game of Thrones” back when it was still airing and after the disaster of how it ended with season 8, I didn’t think the show would live up to the hype with that typical “Game of Thrones” feel. When that first episode aired on HBO Max and I heard that familiar theme from its predecessor, I knew I was watching something special.

The show has that early season one and season two “Game of Thrones” vibe and tone to it. You never know what is going to happen or what twists and turns that are in store. The show shares many similarities to its precursor. An example is one of the main characters on the show named Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) is very similar to fan favorite, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) in them both not wanting to really become royalty.

North Forsyth High school senior, Camden Rowell, shared his opinion on the show.

“Just really love the world-building and plot that sets us up to be emotionally attached to the characters. Really immerses the viewer into taking an interest in each individual’s storyline and their fate throughout the show.”

The show has been very popular with its first episode being the most-watched premiere on HBO Max and a second season is already underway

after the first episode was shown. HBO has given the people another great original and I am very excited to see where it takes us in the future of Westeros.
