On October 1, 2025, the National Honor Society had their annual induction ceremony held at North Forsyth’s Performing Arts Centers. Families, friends, as well as our Principal Carrie MacAllaster, all came to the ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of students, recognizing their hard work and dedication to not only their studies, but also their community and themselves.
The overall atmosphere the ceremony portrayed was formal, based on the attire of inducted members and their families. Students arrived at the ceremony wearing their button-up shirts, dresses and proper footwear. Families also dressed in semi-formal clothing, in order to create a respectful and proper atmosphere for the induction ceremony.
The process of the induction ceremony began with an introduction from the club’s advisor, Allie Corley. In her opening speech, she thanked everyone for coming in, and congratulated all 78 inductees sitting proudly with their certificates on stage for upholding the “standards of excellence” the society expects.
After the welcoming address, Taylor Mewborn, an officer of the NHS, introduced the four pillars that represent the core qualities members are expected to embody and portray.
Each pillar was introduced with an accompaniment of a candle being lit to symbolize the society’s core values, along with four different officers clarifying what each pillar represents. The four pillars consist of Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.
Inductees were then told to stand up for the recitation of the NHS pledge, where they promised to “be true to the principles,” and ”to maintain the high standards of scholarship, leadership, service and character.”
Following the pledge, newly inducted members were then called up one by one, stepping forward to sign their names in a book to formally accept their commitment to the organization. Corley shared that moments that stood out to her the most were the students reciting the pledge, as well as student officers’ speeches, finding them impactful.
The induction concluded with a few words from Corley, congratulating newly inducted members once again, while numerous rounds of applause erupted from the people in the audience.
After the ceremony, students got together with their families, celebrating with cake and taking dozens of photos in excitement for their newly inducted NHS members.
Father of Alex Shrader, an inductee, shared that he found his daughter exhibiting one of the core values: scholarship. He proudly states that he’s seen her “gain confidence in math and science, and she’s been performing excellently in school and outside activities.”
The overall evening reflected the society’s national motto, Noblesse Oblige, meaning “Nobility Obligates.” It serves as a reminder for the newly inducted members to act honorably, generously and responsibly.
