On Oct. 25, North Forsyth hosted their annual Homecoming Dance. With an extravagant theme like City of Lights, expectations were high.
The dance was hosted at North’s Raider Arena, and the building was completely transformed. When students entered and turned in their tickets, they were greeted with a silver runway, lined with lights and dripping with glitter. At the bottom of the stairs was a table for checking shoes, since there were no heels or boots allowed.
Inside the gym itself, multicolored strobing lights flashed across the ceiling, and could even be seen from outside through the roof. A few tables and chairs were scattered around the edges, and small tables with standing room were glowing around the room.
A dazzling Eiffel Tower was erected at the back of the gym, standing taller than any student. On a different side of the Arena, there was a vine-wrapped arch, adorned with flowers and fairy lights for students to take pictures.
Junior Jack Jette and his girlfriend, Leila Dodd, think the theme was well-balanced. “It added a romantic vibe but also a fun one as well,” Jette said. “The decorations helped this a ton.”
Students also received a dessert ticket, which they could cash in at the front of the dance for a treat and a bottle of water.
The dance was well-attended by all grades, so much so that when the live DJ asked each class to cheer, the resulting screams were equally deafening. Homecoming King Evan Byarushengo made an appearance, too.
The dress code was semi-formal, and students complied perfectly. Girls wore traditional dresses, some even donning small tiaras. Boys wore a variety of attire, ranging from full suits to dress pants and a button-up. One senior even wore a maid outfit to the dance, and rumor has it that it was on a dare from his friends.
Overall, students appreciated the dance and its theme. Jette reflects on the night: “My favorite part was probably the lighting and dancing, obviously.” The bar is high for next year’s Homecoming committee, after a dazzling City of Lights dance this year!
