Why Ryan Gosling is The Perfect Ken
Since Ryan Gosling was announced as Ken for the live action Barbie movie, people have been unsure, but after the trailer released, people have been adamant that Gosling is the wrong pick for Ken. However, I disagree. I’m a bit biased when it comes to Gosling because I’m a huge fan of his, but he is the perfect pick.
I think Gosling is perfect for the part because Ken is known as a himbo guy who loves Barbie over everything else. This is literally the embodiment of Gosling, he won’t even need to act because Gosling will just be playing himself.
In an interview with ES Magazine he reached peak Himbo, which means an attractive but unintelligent man, when Gosling got in touch with his feminine side. In the interview he claimed to be 49% percent woman: if this isn’t the most Ken thing then I don’t know what is.
Besides being a huge Himbo he also puts his wife and family before anyone. He has been with Eva Mendes since 2011 and Gosling holds Mendes with so much adoration just like Ken does for Barbie. Plus, an 11 year relationship is a huge deal especially in hollywood with the consistent breakups and drama circulating around celebrities relationships.
Besides relationships and himbofication of Gosling, he also is an amazing dancer. His dancing abilities are shown in La La Land with the scene of Emma stone and him dancing on a hill in LA after leaving a party, but he also could dance even when he was young. This clip of him as a kid dancing in 1992 has been circulating the internet and this is another perfect example of why he is the perfect Ken.
Lastly, people complain that Ryan Gosling is too old, but the dolls are 100 years old and this joke is even mentioned in the web series Barbie Life in The Dreamhouse on Netflix with the countless dates and anniversaries Baribe and Ken have.
Overall, I think people’s hate towards Gosling playing Ken is over dramatic. Anyhow, I’m very excited to see this movie on July 26th and I’m sure it will be amazing.
