Music is and has always been one of the most popular forms of entertainment. We all love vibing to a jingle and moving with the flow of music. However, which type of music is better? Today’s music, or music from classical concerts?
Classical pieces help me feel more relaxed and rested when I organize my room or read a book. I enjoy listening to classical music more in cold, rainy weather because it creates a light-hearted atmosphere in the room.
When I am doing homework or finishing chores, I tend to listen to songs from popular artist Billie Eilish. Pop music has me concentrated and focused on my work more than I could have without it. In addition to that, pop music has way more beats than classical music, which is why I like listening to it while doing tasks.
“I don’t really listen to classical music,” Anna Ware, a freshman, says. “I listen more to vocals, not instrumental.”
Addison Hurley, also a freshman, agrees. “Personally, classical is not my taste, though I usually prefer listening to pop music more,” she says.
“I like classical music,” says Coach Hardy, a biology teacher at North. “Music from nowadays doesn’t have any meaning behind it. That’s why classic music is better, there’s a story behind it.”
I also believe that classical music is full of emotion that cannot be said in words, but can be felt through its melodies.
Indeed, most students do not listen to classical music as much, but they do listen to what is trending lately. The music most commonly seen on social media is pop and rap. You don’t go onto Instagram, for example, and find Mozart’s 40th Symphony being used in one of the videos.
I, personally listen to both types all the time. There are days when a classical piece is stuck in my mind, and there are days when a beat is all that I need to get going. As a student, you will not catch me without earbuds in my ears in the hallways.
Whether it is classic or contemporary, music will always be on my mind. It is scary how much I listen to music, but at the same time, it is my passion. I like both kinds, and I listen to them at the correct times. Sometimes, all you have to do is go with the flow of the music.
