Things to Do in Cumming, Georgia
Rugged mountains, never ending fields, towering trees, farms at every corner, rustic buildings, and dirty pick up trucks are all great descriptors of Cumming, Georgia. With nature so bountiful though, it seems that the only entertainment around is watching the grass grow. Luckily, Cumming is actually plentiful with lively entertainment and full of attractions.
Aquatic Center: Located right off of exit 16, the Cumming Aquatic Center has been an attraction since its opening in mid June of 2011. The center has a competition pool, an instructional pool, and an outdoor pool that features a play structure, a slide, and a lazy river. Open year round, the center provides instruction, exercise, and Red Cross training. Daily admissions are $4, individual passes range from $25– $225 depending if the pass is for one day, 30 days, or 90 days, and family passes range from $65– $265 depending on the amount of family members and whether it is a pass for 30 or 90 days.
Stars and Strikes: Stars and Strikes is the place to go for those who love bowling. They have many great deals for those who are also on a tight budget: A $10 unlimited bowling package on Tuesdays (which includes unlimited bowling and free shoe rental), 99 cent bowling on Wednesday, $2 per game or $14.99 unlimited bowling on Friday and Saturday, and 99 cent bowling on Sunday. Stars and Strikes also has a full arcade, laser tag, bumper cars, and a laser maze. Tuesdays offer unlimited gaming (laser tag, bumper cars, and the laser maze) for $10, and bumper cars for 99 cents and laser tag for $1.99 on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Let’s Roll Skate and Fun Center: Formerly known as Slap Shots, Let’s Roll is a roller skating rink located on Piney Grove Road. Skate rentals are $3 and admissions cost $7 or less per person. The arcade is home to many familiar games such as skee ball, claw machines, air hockey, racing games, the cyclone, and many more which provide tickets that can be traded for prizes.
Airsoft Depot: The Airsoft Depot is the new attachment to Let’s Roll. It’s an area for people who like to play airsoft. With a full outdoor arena, all day play is generally $20 and guests are always welcome to watch.
The Ice: Make sure to bring a jacket for this adventure, because it definitely gets cold. The Ice offers public ice skating, figure skating, and hockey. A lounge room with comfy couches and television is also provided for those who are not up to skating. Throughout the year they offer hockey and figure skating sessions which vary on prices. Public skating (check website for public access hours) generally costs $7 and skate rental is $3.
The Collection at Forsyth: With unique statues and outdoor shopping, The Collection is a fun place to spend on a warm summer day. The Collection offers a wide array of entertainment and events including fashion shows, BBQs, and music. It has a variety of restaurants and specialty stores.
Movies 400, AMC Avenue Forsyth 12: Movies are certainly one of the greatest past times in Cumming, Georgia. The Movies 400 and AMC Avenue are always playing the newest movies. The AMC Avenue is a great location because before or after the movie anyone can stroll around The Collection, however it’s a lot pricier than Movies 400. Movies 400 is terrific for a cheap movie, as movies can run for as low as $5 per person during the day.
Cumming Fairgrounds: Along with the annual fair in October, the fair is constantly holding events throughout the rest of the year. There are fireworks on July 4th, Christmas parades, craft festivals, rodeos, concerts, and many other events. Taste of Forsyth, an upcoming event on April 19th, will provide samples from many restaurants in the area.
Lake Lanier: Many homes in Cumming are situated on the edge of Lake Lanier, which make for a great day of swimming, boating, or even fishing. For an adventure, travel to Lake Lanier Islands which has a fully functional water park, over half a mile of beaches, docks for boating, Dive-In family movies at the wave pool, dining, and interactive games. Daily admissions range from $21–$35, but seasonal passes which are valid from May to September cost $80. Rentals (locker and tube) and Souvenir cups (refills for 99 cents only) are also available.
Cumming Playhouse: In 2004, the Playhouse began to open its stage to many productions. For those who love theater, the Playhouse constantly has plays and concerts. Oliver, a Mello-Drama production will be playing from March 27th through April 19th, for $25 per seat.
Warbington Farms: Throughout the year, people can pick the fabulous grows of Warbington Farms, whether it’s strawberries or pumpkins. Occasionally Warbington has events like their Farm Eggstravaganza on April 12th ($5) and their Strawberry Shortcake Tea Party on May 4th ($8– $10).
Glazed and Fired: This is the place for people who are artistic. Two locations in Cumming offer pottery making and canvas painting, and have plenty of room for parties. They’re always flourishing with activities such as girl’s night out, camps, and other events. Prices vary on the event and activities included within the event.
Parks: Cumming is home to a large variety of parks– Central Park, Poole’s Mill Bridge Park, Suwannee Mountain Preserve, Fowler Park, Bennett Park, Windermere Park, Young Deer Creek Park, Sharon Springs Park, Six Mile Creek Park, Duck Town Park, Old Atlanta Park, Midway Park, Haw Creek Park, Daves Creek Park, Coal Mountain Park, Chattahoochee Park, Charleston Park, Big Creek Greenway, Caney Creek Preserve, and many others. The parks have many different features which include ponds, playgrounds, athletic areas, grilling and picnic areas, nature trails, bike trails, and many others.
