couch
not seat
but a desert, an assemblage
of dog hair & chips from last week
an escape, a shield
that postpones exploring and adventure
cushions that consume you
making you stay
forever

bread
not flour, water and yeast
but a loaf of delight
aromas of beautiful & wondrous smells
a crunchy coat shields the soft pillow
nestled inside

bed
not bed
but a vast sea
of thin, crisp white linens
a gigantic, comforting escape
where we go when Night expands her wings
casting the Day to his other job.
It is a pallet that causes us to go unconscious
and fall into a sleep like no other
cast away into Dreamland.

thunderstorm
not a change in the weather
a calming, yet chaotic experience
of hydrogen and oxygen giving us the pleasure of rain
blessing our skin with the water sent to us from above
soaking everything in its path
drenching, coating, flooding.
