A new musical sensation, 5 Seconds of Summer, finally made their way to Atlanta, Georgia. Although they had a concert, it was not a regular visit. Instead, the band flew people that won an online competition from all over the world to join them in numerous different activities and fun events. The radio station Q100 hosted a miniature competition for anyone who lives in Georgia or near Atlanta for exclusive access to meet the band and much more, but everyone was welcome. In fact, the radio station gave out free concert tickets to almost everyone who simply came to be there.

The Australian band members, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, and Michael Clifford, hosted a similar event last year in Las Angeles, California called Derp Con. At Derp Con, the band performed twice in concert and a few private shows for the winners of the online competition. All the winners and fans at Derp Con dressed up as something that was signifigant to the band, and that also happened in Atlanta. Coincidentally, this year, The New Broken Scene was from October 30th to November 1st, meaning that fans can dress up for Halloween as well as celebrating the band’s arrival.

The New Broken Scene was named after a lyric in their recent single, “She’s Kinda Hot”. In the single, they sing, “we are the kings and the queens of the new broken scene,” therefore they decided to name this event after the lyric. 5 Seconds of Summer came out with their newest album on October 23rd, Sounds Good, Feels Good. During the New Broken Scene concert, which they made a livestream of on YouTube available to everyone worldwide, Ashton Irwin spoke about the album’s meaning: that it is okay to not be okay. The album is filled with melodic, emotional songs that several teenagers nowadays can relate to on an unfathomable level. The band also recently finished their tour, Rock Out With Your Socks Out, in which they came to the Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta on August 5th and they are coming to the same venue on July 24th, 2016. Although it is routine to the band at this point, they still came into the show with high spirits and made the crowd exceptionally enthusiastic. The New Broken Scene was definitely an experience of a lifetime for anybody involved and Atlanta will be remembered for hosting it.
