North vs. West: Paving the Way to the Top
October 9, 2017
North Forsyth’s Varsity volleyball team took on West Forsyth on Sept. 14, snatching the
victory with a 3 out of 5 point win. West put up a good fight, but North was able to sweep all
three matches and make their record 3-0 in the region after that match. West Forsyth has
been one of NFHS’s top rivals in sports for decades, and this win is an exceptional
advancement for our team. Later in the week, the adrenaline following this phenomenal match
and a win against South Forsyth paved the way for North Forsyth to crush Lambert for the first
time since 2014. The varsity volleyball team now holds the top seed in the region.
Coaches Drew and Kelly Cecil have turned North’s volleyball program upside-down since
their arrival in the 2016 season, snatching a spot in the Sweet 16 Tournament for the first time
in over a decade. Last year’s season set exceptional records for the school, and it is predicted
that this season will “set the bar even higher” says Coach Drew Cecil. Their current record is
32-4 (but it is changing with each match!), and MaxPrep and AJC has ranked NFHS’s team
as one of the top 3 in the state. Way to go ladies!
With 10 seniors, the Lady Raiders have exceptional experience, and it shows on the court!
Senior Marin Black has been awarded for 1,000 digs as a libero, and Senior Maddie Bryant
for 1,000 kills as an outside hitter, which is an honorable recognition for them, the team, and
our school. Our Lady Raiders are taking the season by storm, and each match brings even
more excitement as the championship looms closer. Come out and support our varsity
volleyball team at their next game!
