County Buses Getting Equipped with Cameras

Have you seen someone race past a bus’s stop sign? Have you? If you think you will not get caught, think again. Buses will now be equipped with cameras on their stop signs to catch the culprits.

To better keep the students of the Forsyth County School district safe while boarding/ departing the school bus in the morning or afternoon, there are numerous and various laws in place for regular car drivers to follow. However, the number of reckless drivers who give little regard to the students being transported, risk endangering their lives by not following these laws. Therefore, to prevent and catch those who jeopardize children’s’ lives, the county will equip the stop signs on buses with cameras to apprehend the criminals putting students in danger.

On Dec. 19, the Forsyth County Board of Education unarguably approved the motion to mount cameras on the stop signs of buses. Most drivers who endanger students that ride the bus are those that ignore the stop sign while students are exiting or entering the bus. With this new camera, there will be a greater chance/ability to catch those lawbreakers. Those who are caught will pay a fine of $300-$1,000 per violation. The first batch of vehicles will consist of 30 buses that will all be equipped with cameras on the extending stop sign. If this program works, many more vehicles will be equipped with cameras to better protect the students of Forsyth County.
