NFHS Thespians Attend ThesCon 2019: A Recap
March 9, 2019
Between Feb. 7 and Feb. 9, 2019, North Forsyth High School’s inducted thespians enjoyed the experience of another successful Thespian Conference (ThesCon). This year’s conference was held at Columbus State University. Every year, student thespians from all over Georgia come together at ThesCon to participate in classes, watch their fellow thespians perform, and learn new techniques, accents, choreography and more from professional instructors and experienced thespians.
Haylee Wicks, a junior at NFHS, had a great time at the convention this year. She loved participating “in workshops of many varieties, including tech, acting, voice and dance.” It is clear that her favorites were the dance workshops, though. She went to the “Hip Hop Meets Broadway; Greatest Showman Choreography for the Advanced Dancer; Kicks, Flips, Tricks and Partner Work; and Hip Hop Basic Choreography” intensives.
“You can also participate in different [activities] like improv and IEs, Individual Events,” Wicks says. The 2019 Georgia Thespian Conference definitely had something for everyone, and not a single theatrical skill was left out of the mix.
Along with the chance to improve their skills, NFHS students had the opportunity to watch performances by their peers. The plays were screened, assessed and hand-selected before the conference so that a top-knotch variety of shows could be displayed. Forsyth Central High School showed The Grapes of Wrath, Lambert High School put on Fiddler on the Roof, and West Forsyth High School performed The Theory of Relativity. Many other schools performed as well, making for a magnificent showcase of the theatrical talents of Georgia’s high school students.
The thespians of North Forsyth High School had a blast at ThesCon, and every student is looking forward to going back next year. As a wonderful opportunity for growth, learning and having fun, ThesCon is one of the best weekends of the year for theatre students.
