As soon as the calendar turns to Oct. 1, the first official day of the spooky season, people get excited. October marks the beginning of fall:  all of the leaves start to change, the weather cools, and for students, it’s their first break from school. Students can go to pumpkin patches, carve pumpkins, make pumpkin foods and savor warm drinks like hot cocoa and coffee. 

At the beginning of October, there are two main things that happen: fall break and the fair. For fall break, many people went to the beach to suck up some more Vitamin D before the weather cools down. Then, when they came back from their trips, they went to the fair. The fair isn’t for everyone, but it is quite common. Most people go to the fair with their friends to go on the rides, play games and eat food. 

Once it’s in the middle of October, people start getting ready for Halloween. They decorate their house with some scary props like skeletons or they hang up some Halloween lights. Then, there is the pumpkin carving, one of the oldest traditions for Halloween. People may go to a pumpkin patch to get their pumpkins or even to their normal grocery store and buy some pumpkins. After that, they carve out the pumpkins with a certain design and put a candle in it. Another common event people go to haunted houses. They are perfect to get you into the spooky season spirit. 

As the end of October rolls around, people stress about their costumes for Halloween. They are deciding what they are going to be, who they are going with, and what they are doing. Around Halloween, there are parties that kids might go to with their friends. They normally dress up and the host of the party usually has Halloween-related decor and food. Some drinks people make have fog coming out of them by putting dry ice into it to make it seem like acid or some dishes might have candy eyeballs in them. On the night of Halloween, there is trick-or-treating for kids to have fun and get free candy.

After Halloween ends, everyone puts up their spooky season decorations and get ready for Halloween and shortly after Christmas. After all, on Nov. 1, there are only 54 days until Christmas.
