Scrumptious Shortbread Cookies
Christmas is right around the corner, so why not start it off with some sweet, delicious, simple and easy to make cookies? These crispy, buttery cookies melt in your mouth just like snow. They are topped with candied cherries that are a bit too sweet on their own, but the perfect finishing ingredient for this treat.
The recipe makes about 36-40 servings. It takes a total of 1 hour from start to finish, but the preparation time is about 10-15 minutes and the baking takes about 11-15 minutes.
Ingredients:
1 pound butter
1 cup powdered sugar
4 cups flour
Optional:
1 teaspoon almond extract
A container of sweetened/ glazed cherries
Directions:
Step 1
Mix butter and powdered sugar together while gradually adding one cup of sifted flour at a time.
Step 2
Knead the dough like bread, adding flour or powdered sugar as needed until it becomes firm.
Next, scoop out the dough and separate it into two parts, wrapping each in plastic wrap.
Step 3
Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.
Step 4
Take dough out of the fridge and roll it into smaller balls. Indent each one and put a cherry in the middle.
Step 5
Bake cookies at 325 F for 19-21 minutes.
Step 6
Wait for them to cool and enjoy!
