The North Forsyth High School boys golf team traveled down to Jekyll Island on March 3 and stayed until March 5 to compete in the 2022 Johnny Paulk Invitational. The team, led by senior and UT Martin signee Dax Isbell, has a promising season ahead.

The weather, unlike the last few years, was quite nice for the tournament. Partly cloudy skies, 80 degrees and an ocean breeze set the scene for an amazing day of golf. The first group for the Raiders went off at 8:40 in the morning in the midst of a fog bank that had rolled in from the Atlantic. Dax Isbell, Cole Isbell and Brodie Mizer all smoked their drives down the fairway and began their rounds in good shape.

Dax Isbell’s two-under round was the lowest score for the Raiders at the tournament. He describes playing with “more peace” and playing “more relaxed” compared to his prior rounds. He has taken more time to enjoy playing and has learned to be “more appreciative of every opportunity God has given him to play.”

Cole Isbell’s 77 helped the Raider’s team score. The third-lowest round for North was “slow” according to Cole Isbell. His short game made the trip down to the beach. Touch around the greens with his wedges helped him to put together a decent score. A few mistakes here and there and a cold putter contributed to a few strokes gained, but overall, the two-hole player is happy with his score.

Brodie Mizer, the team’s third-ranked player, carded a 74. Mizer was two under par going into the 16th hole, but a few late-round doubles put a small dent in his round. Great tee shots and a clutch short game coupled with his ability to get out of trouble unscathed were the ingredients to the solid round put together by Mizer.

The scores counted by the Raiders were 70, 74, 77 and 85 by Dax Isbell, Brodie Mizer, Cole Isbell and freshman Alex Miggas.

The golf team heads to Chattahoochee Golf Course on Tuesday, March 15 to play in a tournament hosted by Gainsville High School.
