New Mindsets for A New Year
Heading into a New Year, people begin to think of new goals and aspirations they would like to achieve. More often than not, those goals focus on one’s success, perhaps in their career or even in school. Others often focus on their health. Some set goals to start exercising more or eating healthier. More often than not, people tend to forget about the importance of their own mindset. Here is a list of new mindsets to carry into the New Year.
1. Mistakes are not Failure
As Robert Schueller once said, “ Failure is not falling down but refusing to get back up.” A minor inconvenience or mistake, in the long run, will not set you off your track of life. Your reaction to that mistake or minor inconvenience is the deciding factor. Choosing to “get back up,” rather than letting negativity consume your thoughts, will enable you to be more successful and grow to be more resilient.
2. Focus on Yourself
As a collective being, people often get caught up in the perpetual cycle of others’ conflicts and lives. This often results in a distraction from your own path and your own successes. By focusing on yourself– your goals and your successes– you are more likely to experience growth and success in any and all areas of your life. Don’t try to compare yourself to other people. Your path is completely different from theirs.
3. Take Time
Life can feel chaotic and stressful. Whether it is the stress of an assignment in school, your job, extracurricular activities or personal life, it is important to take time for yourself. Isolating yourself from the things causing you stress and anxiety will give you the time you need to recover. It also may enable you to find new hobbies or activities that you enjoy for yourself and find as a great escape from the stresses of everyday life.
4. Try to Look from “The Glass Half Full” Perspective
With life and all of its challenges, it can become hard to stay optimistic and see the positive in situations. It is important to take a step back and look at the situation or challenge from a different perspective. Is it truly something to worry about? Is it something that can eventually be handled? Can it and/or will it work out? The answer to most of these questions is “Yes”. It is important to remember that, rather than ignoring it and giving up.
Heading into a New Year, a new mindset can be beneficial. Choosing to see things through a different lens allows for further growth and success for a person. Continuing to be optimistic and see the good in situations allow for less stress in one’s life. A glass “half full” perspective is just what one needs to grow, be more happy, be healthy and be successful for the New Year of 2023. For more Mindsets.
