Israel has officially declared war on the Palestinian militant group Hamas located in the Gaza camp. This happened after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack against Israel late at night causing boiling tensions between the two sides. The history of the Palestianians and Israelites has been occurring for many years, as disputes over the sensitive Al-Aqsa Mosque sacred to both Muslims and Jews is a leading cause to this unsettling war.
According to the Israeli military over 1,000 people, including 155 soldiers have died in Israel. While 900 people have been killed in Gaza with 260 of those being children and 230 being women. This disturbing statistic has saddened many people including the New Jersey Mayor, Phil Murphy who commented “We pray for every innocent civilian. Israeli, Palestinian, and others,” Murphy said. “Our state stands ready to provide whatever humanitarian assistance we can to innocent families living throughout the region.”
As of right now, The United States has provided military supplies to their ally Israel. President Joe Biden stated, “We stand with Israel”. Meanwhile in Georgia, thousands of people rallied in Sandy Springs supporting the Israelites after hearing the devastating news. Many citizens showed their support and mourned the life of 23 year old Israel Soldier Dekel Swissa who had connections to the city of Atlanta. “When we found out the news yesterday, it was kind of a shock. It’s only a matter of time until there’s a name you recognize, a picture you recognize,” said Jenn Handel from the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta.
The war is far from over and it doesn’t look like the conflict between the Palastinians and Israelietes will stop anytime soon. For now, the United States will keep showing support to Israel by sending military supplies and currency while also maintaining their distance to prevent any chance at a World War III.
