What You Should Do With Your Halloween Candy

There’s too much, but no one knows what to do with it.

At the beginning of November, every household in the United States has tons of candy and they never know what to do with it. Many people just throw it away. Why would someone do that if there are many other options? Yes, eating too much candy will give kids cavities, but that does not mean that the candy that they walked around for hours for should be thrown away without another thought.

Candy is still food. It is still something that was bought with money. Throwing it away would be throwing out everyone’s money and time. Why not just give it to shelters? Or small businesses so that their customers can grab candy on their way out?

There are kids and families that are not able to trick-or-treat. Some people have never experienced a traditional Halloween before. In our society, many others never think before they do things. People need to take a second and just think about what should happen and not just act upon a single thought. Giving candy to others could make their day or even their year.

Every year I see people just wasting candy and treats. Parents do not want their kids to consume that much sugar, so why let them go out and get candy in the first place? Wanting your kids to have fun and experience Halloween is fine, but not allowing them to consume the actual candy is just wrong.

If parents do not want them to consume too much candy then they only give their kids a certain amount of candy a day, and then put away the rest for later. Compromising is always the best option. Finding a middle ground so that the parents do not get frustrated and the children do not get cavities is a semi-win-win on both ends.

Halloween is only once a year. It is not something that happens every month or day. So all that time and money put into the holiday should not go to waste. Just thinking about the thousand of dollars and work put into making the candy for people makes me unhappy seeing all the candy get thrown away.

Next Halloween, I think that everyone should just take a second and think about their options and not just act on the first thing that comes to mind. One final option is to just eat it, have fun and consume a whole bunch of candy on a movie night or friends hang out.
