On Thursday, Jan. 4, Coweta County deputy Eric Minix, 31, was doing his normal shift duties when Coweta County was made aware of a high-speed car chase. Minix was called to help pursue the car among other agencies across the state. Eventually, the chase crossed state borders into Ala. on Interstate 85, where other local authorities began to pursue the person of interest.
Minix and other officers were able to catch the car and control the situation. In the car was 25-year-old, Decedric Donson, from Pensacola. While Minix got out of his vehicle he began to give commands to Donson. Lanett Alabama Police Officer Cornelius Robinson was unable to stop his car and he, unfortunately ended up hitting Minix. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Dobson was charged with receiving stolen property and attempting to elude. Robinson was put on administrative leave and no further comments have been made on whether he will face further consequences. His case is currently being investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Minix was survived by three daughters and his wife. He was a dedicated and loyal member of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. Not only was he a deputy, but also a K-9 officer.
