These two top rappers are going toe to toe. Who will come out on top?

The ultimate showdown between two iconic female rap artists, Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion. It may seem as a shock to all that these two, who have previously worked on a track together, “Hot Girl Summer” back in 2019, are beefing it up on social media.

The situation began with Megan’s release of “Hiss” on Jan. 26, generally addressing her haters. The song itself hadn’t specifically mentioned anyone; however, on Jan. 29, Minaj seemingly kicked off her diss track, “Big Foot” in response to Megan. Overall, the source of outrage was simply over two lines stated in Megan’s song: Megan’s Law

Megan’s Law is a federal law in place that requires registered offenders’ information to be shared with the public, identifying them on a list for anyone to access. The simple mention of such a law within Megan’s track caused Minaj to blow, as fans speculated the line may have been directed toward Minaj. Netizens believe the main reason for Minaj’s harsh response was because her husband, Kenneth Petty, and brother, Jelani Maraj, are both registered offenders, which Minaj has constantly defended for years.

The following events showcased the downward spiral of Minaj on social media: promptly posting about Megan, dissing her, and insulting her. The more than 16-minute Instagram live Minaj held, in an intoxicated state, repetitively raged comments on Megan, calling her derogatory terms, insulting Megan’s mother, and defending her family.

The rampant wrath of Minaj triggered arbitrary phrases such as “Serpent, thou art loose!” or “Big Foot” in reference to Megan. She even mentioned rumors of Megan supposedly forcing her to drink back when Minaj was pregnant with her son. Such accusations were denied by Megan on X; however, many speculated that this was the point that their friendship took a turn for the worse. Months after those accusations were made, Minaj released “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” to jab several disses at Megan, especially stating that she doesn’t mess with horses, indicating Megan Thee Stallion.

Minaj’s diss track had received considerable criticism for mocking Megan when she was shot in the foot by rapper and singer, Tory Lanez back in 2020. What was even more debilitating was Minaj’s humiliation of Megan’s mother, who had passed away in 2019. All-time lows were hit by Minaj, causing many to lose respect for the reputable rapper. Minaj accused Megan of “lying on her dead mama” and warned her not to mess with her family. Nearing the end of the track, Minaj stops rapping and addresses Megan directly. She calls Megan to “get up on her good foot” or anticipate rage in her next installment.

The controversy exacerbated over TikTok as many Barbs, the fandom name of Nicki Minaj, stepped up to condone her for her actions; however, there were still handfuls of people defending Minaj and calling on Megan to fess up.

Although reserved in her comments, Megan went on the famous morning show network, The Breakfast Club, to address the spewing conflict. Megan simply stated, “I’m saying, a hit dog gon’ holler. That’s it. Whoever feel it, feel it.” Hopefully, the two queens of rap can overcome their differences and continue to dominate the music industry, but as of now, such tensions remain between the two.
