Home-made ravioli

Yesterday, March 20, was National Ravioli Day. This wonderful holiday falls on the same day each year in order to honor the delight that is ravioli.

Ravioli rivals almost any other dish. In the pasta world, ravioli clearly dominates. This is partly because there is so much variety with ravioli. Typically, ravioli is filled with ricotta; however, the possibilities are limitless. Modern ravioli can have any type of cheese, meat and even vegetables. Spinach ravioli has been growing in popularity recently. Most commonly, Ravioli is made in square shapes, but it can also be made in circles or semi-circles for variety.

Ravioli is also easy to obtain. While authentic Italian ravioli is superior, you can also buy it by the bag at your local grocery store. All that’s required to eat it is heating it up and then it’s ready! Originally, Ravioli is an Italian cuisine, but it can also be made at home.

The internet is filled with tutorials, or you can resort to a cookbook for a recipe. The actual pasta is made from just flour, eggs and olive oil, ingredients that most people already have in their homes!

To add another element to your dish, you can also add sauce. Some of the more popular sauces like alfredo and marinara are excellent, but branching out and trying new pasta sauces is more fun. Basil pesto sauce is excellent, or something with peppers might add a kick to your ravioli. Don’t want sauce? No problem. Ravioli is delicious enough to be eaten on its own, but there are also other things you can top it with. A little extra cheese never hurt anybody.

Ravioli comes in all shapes and sizes and there’s a dish for everyone out there. Whether you have a sweet tooth or a craving for something spicy, it’s guaranteed that there’s some ravioli out there for you. Celebrate National Ravioli Day by going out to an Italian restaurant or even making some from home. Regardless of how you acquire your ravioli, there’s no doubt that it’s a superior dish.
