In honor of March being Women’s History Month, women in all fields of life should be uplifted. But women in journalism are not talked about enough. The first female journalist is Christine Amnapour, she is an Iranian-British woman who gives much inspiration to many women who are iranian. She not only has multiple talk shows, but in the 80s she was covering the Iran-Iraq war when she worked for the CNN newsroom.She covered when the Berlin wall fell in 1989 and has done many more in the world of journalism. She is now the Chief Anchor National for CNN.
Yahmiche Alcindor is known for covering political and social issues. She was a former white house correspondent. During the year 2020 she covered former President Donald Trump’s presidency. According to ICFJ during the coronavirus pandemic, Alcindor covered the impact of the virus on black communities and people of color. She is now a part of the NBC newsroom.
The next journalist who is known for having controversial views on political and social views is Candace Owens. Owens’ career started in 2017 when she posted a video of her political views on former President Trump. Ever since the release of the video, she has gotten a lot of negative feedback because she is a black woman and her views are conservative. In 2020 she stirred the racial pot by speaking against the BLM movement, she has also spoken out about controversial matters like immigration, LGBTQIA+, abortion and much more. She is currently a part of the Daily Wire.
The last journalist who has made an impact is Barbra Walters, she joined NBC network in 1961 and she did research and wrote for the Today Show. A few months after that she went on to travel with former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. This is when she started to get attention, then in 1975 she won a daytime entertainment emmy award.The following year she joined ABC to be the first woman to co-anchor. She would later be known as the journalist who interviewed every single president from the time she started to the time she retired. Walters would also be known as one of the hosts on the Today show for eleven years before she passed away in 2022. These women have and still are making such an impact in the newsroom.
