The September car of the month is the luxury Alfa Romeo 164, owned by senior Nick Hammond. His car was manufactured and produced by Alfa Romeo from 1987–1998. It was designed to be a four-door saloon, unlike the other four-door cars being made at the time.
The 164 was introduced in 1987 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, as the last model ever released while Alfa Romeo was still its own company. It was designed with concepts from four different major car manufacturers such as Fiat, Lancia, Saab and of course Alfa Romeo. The 164 was originally designed with front wheel drive, which sends power to the front so most of the weight is held on the front wheels to help keep traction on slippery roads.
So how in the world did Nick Hammond get this Italian beauty?
Well, Hammond’s step dad recently got into Aflas and promised Hammond that if he helped work on the car, then he could have an offer that no functioning mind could refuse.
Rally lights are currently installed in Hammond’s car. Also known as Auxiliary lights, rally lights are usually 5 inches in diameter and are attached to the front of the car during bad weather to create better visibility.
Hammond states, “Next I’m going to remove the rally lights and replace the gray on the body with carbon fiber”. This is to make the red accents on the wheel pop for an aesthetic touch.
Surprisingly, the Alfa-despite being a late 80s car-has heated seats and a spacious interior. The dash resembles a 90s style with sleek buttons. The back of the car adds onto the spacious theme, as the trunk is very spacious with the battery sleekly tucked underneath the left corner.
There is no doubt that Hammond’s car is one of the best in the school’s lots and rightfully takes the place of September car of the month.
