This year, North Forsyth is going to be hosting the homecoming dance, with the theme being Miami Nights, on Oct. 5, in the gym from 7:30-10.
Homecoming is one of the most looked forward to events for most high school students. It’s a time for students to dress up and spend time dancing the night away with their friends and/or significant others.
There are many traditions that come with homecoming, such as the appointing of homecoming court, spirit week, hoco proposals, the homecoming football game and the dance itself.
The week before homecoming, also known as spirit week, is full of festive traditions. From dress up days all week, to the homecoming parade, there is no lack of fun events for students to celebrate the homecoming dance.
The homecoming parade is going to be on Wednesday, Oct. 2, where sports teams, clubs, and the homecoming court will get to ride around the school on their homemade floats, and throw candy out into the crowd. One of the exciting things about North’s parade, is that not only do the high school students get to watch the parade, but the middle and elementary school kids do too!
The rest of spirit week will contain different dress up themes for each day.
Monday: BBQ Dad v. Soccer Mom
Tuesday: Frat Boy v. Sorority Girl
Wednesday: Wild West
Thursday: Class Color (freshmen- white; sophomores- black; juniors- gray; seniors- purple)
Friday: Superheroes v. Super Villains
Another homecoming tradition is the crowning of the homecoming court. Each grade level got to vote for who they wanted to be on homecoming court for their grade. And during spirit week, they will get to vote for who they want to vote for as their homecoming queen’s (plus the king for seniors).
The freshman homecoming court consists of Emma Bartlet, Chloe Mayer, Ashlynn Reilly and Angelina Sangers.
The sophomore court is Sydney Cowart, Ansley Estle, Rachel Hilly and London Klemme.
The junior court is Anna Embrey, Michaela Fuller, Camdyn O’Shields and Jaydn Shrauger.
And last but certainly not least, the senior homecoming court is, Julia Hayes, Heaven Small, Kylie Ashford, Victoria Elkhill, Brady Holbrook, Colin Kelley, Jumaa Karim and Sammy Slaughter.
And of course you can’t forget about the long awaited homecoming football game, where the Raiders will take on Denmark High School in a battle for the title of winner. Students will get to dress up as superheroes v. villains to help celebrate the night before the dance.
Get your outfits ready, get your spirits up, and if you haven’t already, ask your date to homecoming because it is quickly approaching!
