The presidential election has come and gone in one night, and former president Donald Trump is victorious in 2024.
Trump’s victory was anchored by sweeping victories throughout swing states, winning Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, all of which were considered toss-ups on election night. The former president also leads the remaining three swing states of Arizona, Michigan and Nevada, but those three states have yet to be called as of 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
This is the first time since Grover Cleveland in 1892 that a former President won an election after losing reelection four years prior. His victory has been deemed a “historic” and “stunning” comeback by multiple major news outlets and experts.
Fox News was the first to call the race Wednesday night, followed by various other media outlets, as well as the associated press around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning. As a result, Trump gave his victory remarks at his Florida Mar-a-Lago residence in the early morning hours.
In his speech, Trump promised that his presidency will “truly be the golden age of America.” His promise of prosperity for America gave voters hope and was one of the keys which led to his win.
In the morning hours after Trump’s victory, Dow Jones Industrial rose over 1,000 points almost immediately, which is a promising sign from the stock market.
The former President’s triumph was hard to predict, as national polling averages had the race either tied or extremely close in the weeks and days leading up to the election.
Meanwhile, for Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democrats, the loss of the White House is met with the loss of the Senate Majority as well. This is bad news for Democrats, because the House of Representatives majority may be also unlikely to shift from Republicans, who had control before election night. The House majority is yet to be determined, as of 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
There is no doubt that Trump’s victory marks a historic political comeback. America will watch throughout the next four years to see if his Presidency will be as great as he has promised during his campaign.
