The North Forsyth swim team proved their worth when they faced off against South, East and West Forsyth high school on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 pm. Before the meet, Coach Loggins, who has been the head coach for the past four years, said the team goes through their warm ups, doing “every stroke, working on their breathing” and making sure they practice before each race.
Starting off for North was Dylan Brookes, who performed a 200 Yd Free-style. Brookes came on strong, but stumbled a little in the end, taking 7th place. The water was alive with the swimmers as they swam, each participant slicing through the water like it was butter.
North sophomore, Ryder Eagen, swam the 200 Freestyle for guys as well, going for a minute and forty-five seconds, landing in 6th place with two minutes and seventeen seconds. Each swimmer competing in the men’s 200 Freestyle Medley performed well, each person striving for success and giving it their all in the race.
Shivani Patel, a senior at North, swam the 200 Yard Medley for the women, going against both South and East Forsyth competitors during the first heat. With a powerful kick off the wall, she swam quickly across the water, landing in 9th place.
The North High swimmers took numerous places as they swam, each proving why they are on the team as they were quick, powerful, and each reached their timed goal under five minutes during the first heat. At 8:10 pm, North and the other competitors ceased swimming for a raffle ticket intermission, where the winners would gain money, the 1st place winner receiving $1,500. The grand prize would go to Stacy Rosie.
At 8:22, divers were called back from a roughly ten minute interval to continue the competition in the second, third, and fourth heats. Divers could be seen warming up by the boards, stretching their arms and legs to get the blood flowing. North diver Benja Kerrisk, a senior, performed the Men’s 100 Yard Butterfly amongst South, East and West divers. His time was a minute and ten seconds, reaching 8th place.
Caro Pinchok, a freshman, started for the Women’s 100 Yard Butterfly strong; nearing the middle of the race her speed dwindled, before she neared the end with a burst of strength and claimed 7th place. Other drivers competed in multiple heats, each performing in a great show of power and how Raiders use their passion to claim success.
While North lost to South, each school brought their best to the competition, North Forysth’s swim team bringing forth their passion and purpose in the water, embodying their spirits as Raiders.
