Wrestling his way to the top, Wrestler Arcadian Eaton is December’s Athlete of the Month. Recently finishing first at the Sequoyah Invitational tournament over Thanksgiving Break. Eaton was nominated for Athlete of the Month by his coach and peers.
Eaton was “cutting a lot of weight”, which may or may not have worked as an advantage for him. The competition consisted of three matches. Eaton claims his second match was the “hardest” compared to the rest, and should have been considered his championship match. Eaton had a bye(automatic entry) into the first round, so he automatically entered the quarterfinals. After winning that match he advanced to the finals, where he placed first.
Eaton has been wrestling for 12 years, and over the years he has faced many challenges and accomplishments. One of his many accomplishments includes being nominated by the county for Freshman Athlete of the Month. Eaton’s team has also made state every year and during his freshman and sophomore years, the team got second state. Along with major accomplishments Eaton also faced major setbacks, including his biggest setback which occurred in his sophomore year when he underwent serious fractures.
Eaton’s favorite part about wrestling is bonding with his team. He finds competition this year a lot harder for his team, due to not having the current sort of team in previous years, but holds hope for his team, and feels their team will do “decent” this year. For team goals, he hopes and believes the wrestling team will make it to sectionals.
The hardest part for Eaton in wrestling is Wednesday practice. Eaton and his team have to do 300-shot practices on Wednesday after an exhausting day of school for two hours. Eaton’s coach used to wrestle, so he is really vigorous in his workouts.
Eaton is motivated to wrestle every day by his sisters. His sisters all wrestle behind him, so Eaton wants to prove to them anything can happen if you work hard. He is specifically motivated by his sister Artemis, a two-time undefeated state champion. Artemis’s accomplishments fuel him to do better in his competitions. Along with his sisters helping him rise to the top, he believes good competition has also played a huge role in his wrestling career.
Eaton is an all-time superstar. He believes in his teammates and doesn’t back down from a challenge. Every time Eaton loses a match he becomes a better wrestler and person. North Forsyth High is proud to have Eaton represent us.
