Seven students have been named Raider Wire Student of the Month this school year, and the eighth person to add their name to the list – the first in 2025 – is Trent Jones. Jones is in his third year as a member of Raider Nation, and remarked “it feels good” to be the recipient of Raider Wire Student of the Month.
Despite his favorite subject this year being math, his favorite teacher is his spanish teacher, Juan Garcia. When asked why Garcia is his favorite teacher, he replied “he has the same personality as me, and we just get along really well.”
Aside from being a student at North, Jones is also on the varsity golf team. For this upcoming season, his top goal is to receive his first scholarship offer to play golf at the collegiate level. Jones would like to play in college and on the PGA Tour someday, but he said he “will see what the future holds,” and admitted “it’s still a long way away.”
To prepare for his tournaments, Jones practices regularly at his house. He mainly focuses on chipping and putting, which he regards as the “most important parts of the game.”
Interestingly, watching golf on T.V. is what lured Jones into playing. His favorite golfer is Alabama alum Nick Dunlap, which makes sense because that is his favorite college, and he also met Dunlap himself.
Balancing golf and school is greatly important; however, to do that Jones says he “tries not to worry too much about golf,” practicing when he can while mainly focusing on academics.
Outside of school and golf, Jones likes hanging out with friends, playing video games, and fishing.
Key advice which Jones gives to rising Juniors is to “turn in your work on time,” and to “show teachers that you care.” He assures rising juniors that despite the heavy workload, they will be “totally fine” if they do all of their work.
There is no doubt that with the enthusiasm, sense of humor and kindness which he brings to the classroom, Trent Jones is deserving of the January Raider Wire Student of the Month.
