North Forsyth Boys Basketball wins their 9th region game of the season, squeezing by Forsyth Central 57-50 on Senior Night in Raider Arena.
The Raiders faced off against the Bulldogs today in a heavily awaited region matchup. North currently sits in second place in the region standings with an overall record of 11-11 and 8-4 in region play. On the other hand, Central found themselves in fifth place in the region with a record of 13-9 and 6-6 in region play. In the team’s previous meeting, the Raiders were victorious, routing the Bulldogs with a score of 63-51. Central wanted to tie the season series 1-1, while North wished to complete the sweep.
“It’s a great opportunity for our guys to go out there and get a big win. To send the seniors out on a win and get a region win would be huge for us,” Senior Manager Ross Akins said pregame.
Before Tip-Off, North Boys Basketball honored 9 Seniors: #2 Brogen Casey, #3 Jacob Costello, #4 Davis Deeb, #5 Ty Womack, #10 Zach Alvarez, #11 Patrick McGarl, #12 Cooper Adams, #34 Brayden Weems, and Manager Ross Akins.
After an emotional ceremony, It was time to settle business.
First Quarter: Central got hot early, going up 5-0 2 minutes into the game, but North quickly tied it up 5-5 with 3:00 left in the first quarter. Central Guard #2 Daylen Hargrove finished the quarter with 8 points, giving the Bulldogs a 13-11 lead to end the quarter.
Second Quarter: Hoping to be a much more entertaining quarter than the first, North Forward #24 Mike Akinrinmade led the show for the Raiders, scoring 6 of his nine first-half points to bring the Raiders within 1. Central Forward #23 Caleb Drummer was also balled out, with 7 of his nine first-half points in the second quarter. Central led North 28-27 going into the half.
Third Quarter: What looked to be a promising quarter turned out to be stagnant for both teams, as both teams scored under 10 points in the quarter. After a late 6-0 push by the Bulldogs, Central increased their lead to 3, making it 36-33 heading into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Central extended their 6-0 run to a 12-0 early in the fourth, pushing the score 42-33. With North down 9 with 7 minutes to go, North Guard #5 Ty Womack started catching fire, contributing to 5 crucial points and bringing the Raider within 1. The Raiders would use that momentum to go on a 8-0 run tying up the game at 47 a piece. That late fourth-quarter push by the Raiders increased to an 18-3 run, ultimately pushing the Raiders ahead by 7 to end senior night on a win 57-50.
