Dead By Daylight is one of the most popular games in recent times. With its release in 2016, nobody expected it would grow big enough to accommodate such large licenses such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Left For Dead and later Five Nights at Freddy’s. With the game’s already impressive roster of original characters, such as David King, Yun Jin Lee, Feng Min, Sable Ward, Ji Woon(The Trickster), Carmina Mora(The Artist) and Talbot Grimes(The Blight), it is no surprise that it has a dedicated fanbase.
Dead By Daylight can be described as an asymmetrical horror game, where four survivors try to evade and escape one killer by repairing five generators across a wide variety of maps. Each side has their own unique perks specific to a character, with each individual player being able to bring in a combination of four. Survivors must work together to escape the killer, and those lucky enough to have friends that play can group up in teams called “Survive With Friends”. Otherwise, survivors can choose to queue up solo, known as “solo queue” by the majority of the community. The game’s trials have a multitude of “modifiers”, including but not limited to “Lights Out”, where maps are pitch black, “Chaos Shuffle” where all players have a randomized selection of perks, and last but not least “2v8” where the number of players is doubled, with eight survivors going against two killers. On the news of 2v8, it has notably returned as of Feb. 10th, with a new twist: The introduction of the first licenses to be featured in this game mode, Resident Evil.
Resident Evil and Dead By Daylight have collaborated before, as it is the only license to have two separate chapters, with the first chapter introducing Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, and The Nemesis, along with legendary skins, with Jill Valentine receiving Claire Redfield, and Leon S. Kennedy received Carlos Oliveria. The second chapter, named “Project W” introduced Ada Wong, Rebecca Chambers, and Albert Wesker(The Mastermind).
The Nemesis and The Mastermind have joined 2v8 as of now, and alterations to their abilities have been made. The Nemesis receives a buff in the number of zombies it spawns with, going from three to eight, and The Mastermind receiving an extra “Virulent Bound” to his already existing two bounds. With these two being the first licensed characters to come to Dead By Daylight’s 2v8, the playerbase is notably excited, with the trailer for 2v8 dropping on Dead By Daylight’s Youtube Channel and other social media, the hype has been building in the player base ever since speculation of licences coming to the game mode began circulating. The fact that new cosmetics for all previously added Resident Evil characters have been released only further accentuates the player bases’ excitement.
Now that Resident Evil is in 2v8, the fanbase is excited to see what other licenses could potentially arrive in the game mode, as it is just the tip of the iceberg that has been scraped, because, with licenses like Castlevania, Rainbow Siege six, and Nicholas Cage himself, possibilities are endless and Dead By Daylight’s potential has yet to be fully utilized.
