In the weeks leading up to the September 18 independence referendum, a wave of Scottish nationalism gripped the country. Scottish pride has always existed, and has been used as a tool by both the Yes and No campaigns to win over voters. The Scottish flag has been hoisted in places all over Scotland, and has even been used by Catalonian protesters in Spain to signify their desire for an independence vote.
