These past few months, I’ve been impatiently counting down the days I have left in this school. With each passing day, I grow more tired of the monotonous drone of classes; I’m sick of sitting around doing nothing all day. The one thing I haven’t been dreading is Journalism. Being on our newspaper has been one of the best experiences of high school. I’ve always loved literature, but journalistic writing has a newfound special place in my heart.
A big part of that is thanks to Ms. Ewing. I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher, as her warmth, wisdom and whimsy incited in me a passion for writing. It’s been an honor to see this program grow over the past four years. Each year comes a new set of students and with it, a new challenge. Our dynamic changes every year, but this year, as editor-in-chief, has been my favorite.
I should thank my editors for their patience and dedication. I always looked forward to Bella’s bold and fresh opinions. Sadie has inspired me with her gumption–and I’ll always remember her belting California Girls with Zee. Speaking of Zee, I appreciate his precision when it comes to grammar and structure. Mylaina, thank you for your sparkling humor.
As for Cameron, she is going to make an incredible editor-in-chief next year. Not only is her portfolio an excellent demonstration of her passion and hard work, but her dry humor and penchant for surprising us also make her perfect for the job. I can’t wait to see what she does next year. She’s going to have her hands full, but she’ll also have a lot of help, with our incredible upcoming editors. Juno, Gabby, Imili, Anthea and Sahasra are going to be amazing editors.
Four years in journalism is a lot to sum up in one farewell, but I think it’s enough to say that I enjoyed it with my whole heart, and it’s one of the only things I’m going to miss from high school.
