The debate about whether or not the use of technology at school is good for teens in today’s society is at its peak. The answer is obvious: technology is for the better because technology provides safety, communication and educational learning. Technology can be expensive but it is worth it in the long run.

Although technology can be a distraction in school, by having students’ notifications going off in class, students playing on their devices during class when not supposed to or even cheating on an assignment, technology can also be a good thing/ It can provide online tutoring sessions, reliable sources and different research options.

I asked two North Forsyth students, sophomore Cameron Howard and sophomore Ross Akins, what their opinion on technology was and they could not be more in favor of it. Akins’s answer was short and simple: “I think that technology should be in school because it brings excitement to learning and without it, students will get bored.”

“Technology allows teenagers to keep in contact with their family, their friends and their greater community” Howard commented.”Secondly, an impressive array of digital learning tools available now enables teens to take the classroom home and continue to learn, regardless of their environment.”

Many professionals in education agree with these statements as well.

“Technology provides students with easy-to-access information, accelerated learning and fun opportunities to practice what they learn. It enables students to explore new subjects and deepen their understanding of difficult concepts, particularly in STEM. Through the use of technology inside and outside the classroom, students can gain 21st-century technical skills necessary for future occupations.” Stated in an article by the School of Education Online Program.

Not only does technology help explore and learn, but it can also make it easy not only for the teachers but also for the students by having the ability to track their test scores. According to Project Tomorrow, “59 percent of middle school students say digital educational tools have helped them with their grades and test scores.”

Some may ask, are online schools a good idea? I believe so. Online classes provide additional instructions for students who are struggling in subjects and also allow students to

work at their own pace. Education experts agree that online courses can be a valuable tool for certain students. When disciplined students can work wherever a computer might be, technology can help students understand their work better and faster.

Cell phones in school can as well be suitable for educational learning too. In a classroom, you can find computers, but it’s rare to have enough computers for each student. Allowing students to use their smartphones for online research frees up the computers for those who don’t have their own devices. This makes it easier for the students, so they can each edit their documents, search for online research for projects and watch educational videos on their devices.

Technology provides students with easy-to-access information, accelerated learning, and fun opportunities. If monitored carefully, technology is a really great source for the school.
