It’s just as bad as the other times

The flames are loud and violent, and the smoke tastes like change.

The flames are loud and violent, and the smoke tastes like change.

Sam Perryman, Prose Editor

Lisa cries in her room.

She hides from her family.

In the kitchen, a pot boils over,

And the sauce bubbles and burns on the eye of the stove.

John’s room is vacant;

He sits outside where it is silent.

The living room is on fire.

The flames are loud and violent, and the smoke tastes like change.

Lisa’s eyes are dry now.

The pot in the kitchen is lined with black sludge.

Chemical processes changed the sauce into black carbon, among other things.

In the living room, the fire blazes on.
