Welcoming Juan Garcia to the Spanish World at NFHS
North Forsyth High School has a new addition to its World Language staff. Juan Garcia is the newest Spanish teacher and was recently a substitute just last year. “I loved getting to know the kids more,” said Garcia. Garcia comes from a long line of educators, so he is prepared to start his first year teaching as a Raider.
The Puerto Rican Native attended the University of North Georgia where he acquired his bachelor’s and later got his masters degree at Tomsk State University in the Russian Federation. Garcia teaches Spanish because, “I love Spanish myself. I love language acquisition.” Garcia also added that he would love to teach Russian and maybe a little Hebrew or French. Garcia’s teaching philosophy is to always put the learners first, “The goal is for the learner to learn, and that is my purpose here.”
Garcia chose North Forsyth due to the location and because of how well everyone treats each other in the district. His favorite part about teaching is seeing the results. Garcia tells his students to always be productive with their lives and to “never back down from your dreams.”
The teaching style Garcia uses is very effective, he says, “90% of my class is in Spanish and 10% in English. As long as we’re having dialogue, we’re having fun.” This expresses Guarcia’s love for his students. Many young people today are still trying to find their passion but Garcia says he’s “living the dream.”
Although many students seem to think teachers live at the school, Garcia is very productive outside of North Forsyth High School. He studies Russian, runs and workouts at Crossfit. Garcia isn’t really a fan of sports but when it comes to vacations he’s all in, he stated, “I love visiting Puerto Rico: it’s my home.” Puerto Rico is definitely a vacation spot for Garcia. Garcia is very into Argentinian Artists and music, he even prefers Argentinian Music over any other genre.
We are thrilled to have Garcia on the North Forsyth staff this year!
