Christmas is a time for laughter, fun and spending quality time with your family and friends. But what would Christmas be without a fun day spent watching classic Christmas movies?
Let’s begin with a whimsical tale of a boy left alone on Christmas to fend off his house from robbers. “Home Alone” is a fun, child friendly movie centered around young Kevin McCallister, a sarcastic eight-year-old boy who is accidentally left behind while his family goes to the airport without him. While his mother frantically tries to get back to him, Kevin is busy defending the house against a couple burglars, using numerous funny and creative antics and ideas to stop them. “Home Alone” gets a laugh out of its audience no matter where you are, and is most definitely suited for a fun Christmas movie.
Another exciting movie families can watch is “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” a heart-warming story about a young reindeer named Rudolph who is born with a shiny red nose. He’s told to hide his nose because it’s different, and would eventually run away from home, ashamed. The movie centers around people’s differences and how it’s not shameful to be different from someone else. People’s differences in appearance and personality should be celebrated, not looked down upon.
A “Charlie Brown Christmas” is definitely in spot number three. Charlie Brown always sees potential in things others may consider dull or useless, and a valuable lesson of not judging others based on their looks alone is mentioned in the story. It’s a fun, lighthearted movie for young kids (let’s be honest, we’ve all seen it in school.)
Who can forget about our favorite snowman, Frosty? The 1969 film “Frosty the Snowman” features a snowy school day where children construct a fun snowman. With the help of a magician’s hat, the snowman, Frosty, comes alive. Frosty and his friend Karen try to evade the mischievous professor Hinkle, a magician who wants his magic hat back. The story is fun and filled with smiles, involving a mime rabbit and a jolly Santa Clause. Frosty is definitely a fun story to watch with your family and drinking hot chocolate.
Number five is the classic 1996 version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” The Grinch is a green creature who despises Christmas, with a barely there heart filled with hatred for the merry holiday. He thinks if he takes away all the Christmas decorations, the Whoville citizens will become sad. However, the exact opposite happens when instead of becoming sad, the citizens rejoice still, for it’s the birth of Jesus Christ that is the reason we celebrate Christmas. The movie shows us how Christmas isn’t about the presents or the food, but about the importance of family and celebrating God.
