September 14, 2016
Newly released animated movie, The Wild Life, is a precious children’s movie enjoyable for children of young ages. The animated film was released September 9th and has been based on the 1989 classic movie, The Little Mermaid.
The plot takes place on a secluded utopian island in the middle of a vast, open, ocean, with seven inhabitants: Scrubby the goat, Marc the parrot, Carmello the chameleon, and the rest of their island friends. Marc, dreams of traveling and finding other words other than his own. He collects everything and anything that washes ashore. Together, the animals live secluded from the rest of the world, believing their island is all that there is. However, their fantasy is greatly changed when a shipwrecked man and his dog wash up on shore.
At first believing their intentions to be hostile, the animals attempt to push away the man and his dog, until they are presented with a greater enemy. With many struggles, together they learn to protect their beloved home, evade hostile pirate invaders, and live together in peace.
This film epitomizes themes of bravery, courage, and true friendship. Although this film is an excellent choice for young children, ages three to eight, it was rated poorly based on the known fact that it lacks the complexity and interest needed to be engaging towards teenagers and adults. The movie is obviously targeted towards children, making it interesting and engaging for them with appealing animation, memorable dialogue, and humorous characters with lovable traits. However, older audiences may find it less appealing due to the simplicity of the plot line and the classic, expected resolution.
Overall, The Wild Life resembles a beautiful piece of animation and a modern film with themes of adventure, danger, teamwork, friendship, and exploration for all to interpret and enjoy.
