Kyle Ellis, a senior here from NFHS, recently won the National Interscholastic Cycling Association State Championship.  His final time on this 18 mile race was over three and a half minutes faster than the second place runner up. This is the first year that high school mountain biking has been offered in Georgia, making him the state’s first varsity champion in history.

Ellis has been biking for four years and has aspirations to bike in college. He is currently undecided on which college he plans on attending.

The National Interscholastic Cycling association was founded in 2009, and came to Georgia in 2014.  The main goal of NICA is to “develop high school mountain biking programs for student-athletes across the United States.” By 2020, NICA hopes to have mountain biking in all states from coast to coast.
