I Am a Prince

For 99 percent of people, those things are in alignment. For transgender people, they’re mismatched. That’s all it is. It’s not complicated, it’s not a neurosis. It’s a mix-up. It’s a birth defect, like a cleft palate.” ~Chaz Bono

Dress-up is so much fun;

Little eyes glittering in the light.

Dressing up like dolls,

Zipping up our princess dresses

And pulling on our fairy wings,

Before finally putting on our crowns and mother’s heels.

We live in a fantasy land with princes, dragons, and wicked witches galore.

Dress-up is so much fun;

No light is behind aged eyes.

Painting on faces,

Buckling of bras before sliding on dresses,

Slipping on heels and a fake smile,

Before going to the mirror to whisper “only a few more years”

Like a lifeline.

We live in a fantasy land where we are girls.
