Her eyes are the shade of an autumnal Leaf
Every time I catch a glimpse, I feel like a thief
She completes me like a key to a lock
I carry her on my back as I walk
She’s too tired to go on
So my back she’s upon
We continue through the woods, whispering to each other as we go
I see her reflection in a puddle, her smile begins to glow
We walk by the puddle, she rests her head on my shoulder as we pass
Under a tree I set her down in the grass
I sit down next to her and grasp her hand tightly
She grins at me brightly
She tells me that she loves me
I reciprocate it, as I’m set free
Atop a large hill we lay in the weeds, daffodils surrounding us
I begin to let go of her hand but she starts to fuss
I grasp her once more, saying that I’ll never let her go
We look at the sky once more, watching as the clouds flow
No insect, bird, nor animal interrupts us two
They know it is something they must not do
With my other hand, I pick a daffodil and place it above her ear
I look at her as she giggles but I do not hear
I’m looking into her eyes, and I see the leaf once more
The scenery around me changes back to winter, my heart feels sore
I’m alone on that same hill again
She’s merely at home, but without her I feel I cannot sustain
The memory was a pleasant reminder
She loves me and I love her.
