With Valentine’s right around the corner, it is always nice to have a good rom-com to snuggle up to and watch: so as an early gift, here are some of my favorite rom-coms that I recommend.

My go-to romance film whether it be Valentine’s Day or a random Tuesday is “Pretty Woman”. This movie may be an unconventional pick, but it has a grip on me because I’m a huge fan of the trope rich man- poor girl:  I support working women, but sometimes I just want a man to pay for everything. Plus who doesn’t love two attractive people and Julia Roberts’s iconic scene where she goes back to the store and says, “ Big Mistake. Huge!”. That scene is Chef’s Kiss!

Even though I love that damsel in distress vibe, I still look for strong female characters when watching rom-coms: like Kat Stratford. Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles), from “10 Things I Hate About You”, is by far my favorite character in any romance film I’ve watched because she stands up for her beliefs and is badass: plus her iconic dance scene on the table with a crowd of people surrounding her is to die for. Also, this movie has an amazing cast. Including Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gabrielle Union.

There are so many other scenes in “10 Things I Hate About You” that make it such an iconic teen romance. Including Ledger’s performance of “ I Love you Baby” and Stiles’ poem scene.

“10 Things I Hate About You” and “Pretty Women” are amazing films to watch for Valentine’s Day, but pretty well-known, especially for romance fans like me. However, a movie I can not stop recommending since I watched it back in 2022 is “Down With Love”.

This film is by far the best romance movie I watched in 2022 and I could not get enough of the satirical aspect. On top of that, you have once again, an amazing cast with actors such as Ewan McGregor and Renée Zellweger and it’s so entertaining to see McGregor play such a comedic character.  However, what made the movie for me though, is the ending scene: you can’t add a musical number and not expect me to fall in love.

Now, I know sometimes I’m not in a movie mood and would prefer a tv show. Well, “Heartstopper” is that show to watch to get into the Valentine’s day mood. This show is by far one of the best representations of people a part of the LGBTQ+ community and features a cast of actual queer and age-appropriate characters to represent high schoolers. Plus, as a fan of the comic books, the show is such a great adaptation and leaves me feeling lighthearted and warm after every episode.

Overall, any of these programs, whether it be movies or shows, are perfect to snuggle up to and watch on valentine’s day whether you’re with someone or not.
